there is no age to start..you just have to watch your child for cues to know that he/she is ready. Your baby will let you know, you can introduce the potty chair but don't expect anything from it at that age, 18 months is still young, most children aren't fully potty trained till close to age 3

I introduced the potty at about 15 months, but expected absolutely nothing. My daughter would sometimes sit on the potty to model after me. Now, at 22 months, I have left her diaper free a few times in the house and she has gone once, almost by accident. Just don't push it at 18 months, especially if you have a boy.

it depends on if you think the child is ready or not. remember, it has to be THEIR decision. girls you can usually start a little younger, boys are WAY different. do they know when they've messed their diaper? do they try to sit on the potty on their own, do they say "i have to go to the bathroom"???
if so, then these are a few signs to show that maybe they're ready to try. but if they don't even know when they've messed their diapers, or what poo and pee are... then i wouldn't even bother.

i tried 3 times w/ my son, he was 3.5 yrs. when we succeeded.

i run a daycare, and i have a mom who is trying to get me to potty train her 2 yr. old. and there is no way, because he doesn't even know when he's peed or pooped in his pants, he's sit in it all day and could care less.
