the seed is in the rose itself, so if you burried a rose you would be planting a rose bush.

You cannot just put a rose stem in the ground, it won't grow roots it will just die.

Try this, as it may work. Buy root-tone or another rooting hormone from a nursery. (while you are there ask for other pointers -as they may have some) Remove blossom and carefully trim the rose stem just under the point where the last set of leaves were, remove any remaining leaves, dip the stem in water and then in the rooting hormone. Place this cutting in moist potting soil and cover it with plastic - forming a mini greenhouse. Keep it in a warm draft free place and in approximately 6 - 8 weeks you should begin to see some new growth. You will need to keep the soil moist - not soppy wet and not in direct sun.

Many roses are grafted, so even if this begins to grow it make have a weak root system.

Hope this helps and you end up with a beautiful keepsake rose bush. :)

No, Roses don't reproduce by seed. The are grown by two methods of propagation. One: A cutting of the rose is graphed onto a root ball and is the grown from there. Two. A cutting of an older rose is then put in a root toner and planted and this allows it to grow new roots thus giving you a new rose bush.

You are wanting to know if you can take a cutting from an existing rose bush and make another rose bush from it. The answer is yes you can. You will want to take more than one cutting because they don't always root. Here is a site with detailed instructions and photos.

I used to have a neighbor that would just stick a rose on a stem in the ground and it would grow but I've never been able to grow one without roots already.
