you can't get a job working in a bank if you get caught using a fake ID.

I think that criminals just like anyone else should get a fair shot at getting a job. How are they expected to return from prison and be honest members of society when the door is slammed shut in their face every time they try to get anywhere. People are so discriminating against a prison record, or if you're male or female, if you're gay or straight; we're so quick to judge without giving the person a shot and it shouldn't be that way. We're all created equally.

I think convicted criminals do deserve a second chance, yes. How the heck can they ever turn their lives around if no one takes a chance on hiring them. There is a condition though, if you were a sex offender, you can't work with kids. If you had a conviction for violence, that would really limit who you could work with, if you were convicted of embezzlement, you couldn't work with money etc. I think people can turn their lives around and deserve a chance to do so. In my opinion, the judicial system in this country is FUBAR.

Finally to answer your question, no I don't think the "obidient" citizen should get preference for the job.

Coragrphy WAY TO GO! The only difference between you and the "criminal" is that you haven't gotten caught! YET! Sometimes ex-offenders, due to the fact they were incarcerated are more honest than a non-offender. Remember, as you point one finger in accusation, you have three more point back at you.

Not only the gov. should keep records of such criminal, but he/she should most certainly be tried and convicted if proven guilty.

I refer to SERIOUS charges and not the innocent law breaks like late tax paying, jaywalking, etc. such as it's mentioned in one of the answers here.

Crossing the border ILLEGALLY is a VERY serious crime. Stealing, robbing, mugging, raping, injuring and/or murdering someone, are extremely SERIOUS crimes and they should be severely punished, and given to certain ones, life sentences without parole, if not capital punishment.

The only reason why crime of all kinds persists in our country and even increases is that the culprits literally get away with murder! And punishment does not mean to make the criminal comfortable, healthy or happy. IT'S A PUNISHMENT YOU SILLY - NOT A VACATION!!! ;o) Adela

Just about everyone breaks the law at some point.

Jaywalking, speeding, driving without a license or without insurance, paying your taxes late without getting permission first -- all of these are illegal.

Where do you want to draw the line at who is an "honest" person?
