First the good: it is water soluble so easy to apply to plants.
The bad: it is very expensive per pound of actual fertilizer it contains. That is why nurseries like to sell it- higher profits. It is a number one seller because of the heavy advertising, not because it is any better for plants. There are many other fertilizer products that are much less expensive. The plant does not care if the nitrogen comes from miracle gro or brand x.

Miracle Gro is a marketing device of the Scotts Company. Miracle Gro products contain the same nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus that any other plant fertilizer has in it, it's just that it's made and marketed by Scotts Company.

Most of the miracle gro products contain some measure of fertilizer and that makes them out perform products that don't contain fert. Really, the products are designed to help gardening "dummies" produce more satisfactory results.

Most professional growers and landscapers don't use products like these because they can buy less costly components and blend them to achieve optimum results. Not everyone has the knowledge and wherewithal to do this, so Scotts found a niche in which to do business, and quite profitably as well.

As far as the "salts" mentioned in the above answer, fertilizer salts are not harmful. They break down and become nutrients for plants. It's like anything else.. used at the proper rate, they are good. Too much of anything can be harmful.

Used according to directions, their products are safe and effective.

Miracle Grow tends to work better than many standard fertilizers because it includes many micro minerals that regular fertilizers don't. Others may just include nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium. Also it is very water soluble. And like the one person mentioned, yes it does cost more per pound. Nitrogen is nitrogen for the most part, but the additional micro-minerals is what makes the major difference.

I love Miracle Grow. I use all their products. I have found that when transplanting plants , the plants will recover faster when I use the MG soil in the pot or in the ground around the plant and then use the MG root stimulator. I get great results.

I find that using a multicote or time release granuals are better at fertilizing. because when using a water base soluable fertilizer every time you water your plant the nutrients are leached out in the watering process. But when using a time release the granuals will add fertilizer to the soil, each time it rains or you give it a drink. Thus adding way more acceptable nutrients to the soil.

Good thing about Miracle Grow is that it is a well-balanced. water soluble fertilizer & it works.

The bad thing about it is that like all non-organic fertilizers, it's active ingredients are bound together with salts which, with over use (very common among gardeners) leach into the soil & run-off into streams and ground water.,
