If I need to replace all four of my tires is it safe to buy one tire at a time. My plan is to buy one over the my next four pay periods or will it mess something up? Also if I need an alignment should I get that first?

Don't buy one tire at a time. At minimum, buy them in pairs. When they are in pairs at least their dimensions will be the same and they shouldn't wear strangely before you can add the next tire.

You only need an alignment if the old tires wore out with an odd pattern. If they are just old and worn in all places then I wouldn't worry too much about the alignment.

There is considerable debate about which wheels to add the new tires to, especially with front wheel drive vehicles, but all of the research I've done indicate new tires should go in the back. This avoids a condition called oversteer which is when the front tires grip and the rear tires don't leading to a condition where it is tough to control the car. New tires in the back would lead to understeer -- a condition where the back tires grip and the fronts don't, resulting in a less dangerous condition should something go wrong.

yes, get an alignment before new tires, the mis-alignment will cause un-even tire wear on your new tires

it would be better to just save up over the next 4 pay periods then buy all 4 tires at once, plus you will get a better deal. Although it won't hurt anything to buy them one at a time, you will have 4 tires each with a different amount of wear on them.

If all four NEED to be replaced then I guess that no, it is not safe to do just one. You need all four.

And no, don't get the alignment until all four have been replaced. The difference in brands/treadwear between the old and new tires will throw off the alignment.

As long as you aren't planning any major traveling, then it would be ok. What if you wait two pay periods at a time and get two on at once? Do not get alignment until you have all tires on,, again that's assuming you won't be doing alot of driving until then.

wait till next paycheck and buy 2 for the front.. then drive it.. if it goes straight save the cost of alignment and apply to the new rears
