'Trying to introduce a little levity here in an otherwise serious topic that gets very little play in my opinion.

At least a dairy cow is treated well by a farmer.

Énjoying your comments thus far.

Yes, I do believe Western nations have and will attempt to exploit Chinese labor and natural resources as ruthlessly as they can. One could find an equally provocative metaphore for this view of China. The opium trade, for example, was a disgraceful page of British history.

China is not a person, and therefore has no views. It is possible that some people in China do view the American consumer as a milk cow. It is equally possible that some people in China view China as a cow being milked for the benefit of the American (and Japanese) consumer... Needless to say, both views are incorrect.

No more then we view China as our udder.

All the Chinese are doing is taking advantage of capitalism and supply and demand. They can supply us with goods at a cheap price.

China exports to the USA about 20% of their exports.
USA exports to China stands at about 6% of our exports.

Which means, 80% of their exports go to the rest of the world whereas 94% of ours.

While China depends on us, if we were to close all imports from China, we'd only be shooting ourselves in the head. 16% of our imports come from China. Those are mostly consumer products. Machinery and high ticket items we import come from Canada, Japan and Europe. Therefore, if we were to take away consumer products, it would affect our country far more then losing only 16% of our imports. Cost of living would skyrocket thus putting us into a very precarious position. On the other hand, China can find new markets to make up for the 20% shortfall and while it would affect them in the short run, in the long run they'd become less dependent on us and more dependent on global markets.

Peace

I would think if we become stingy as the British, China wont be happy at all.

In a few more years, I dont think it will matter much if we buy from them or not.

what is the rest of the world for lol

Well having been to China, I certainly felt like I was being viewed as a milk cow when I walked down the street. It was like I had big sign on my forehead that said "American Sucker".
