Ok I am miserable right now... I am 37 weeks and haven't made a "real" bm for about 5 days. what are safe ways to get things going again? I know laxitives aren't supposed to be very good at this time...

I have been trying to add more fiber to my diet... I have even been eating the metamucil fiber wafers.

dont take laxitives, they will drain your body of all its nutrients and then your baby wont be getting any, you should try and eat more fiber foods, nuts, fruits, exc. Also you should talk to your doctor there might be someting she can give you.

Try a FiberOne bar- those things taste great, have tons of fiber and believe me, if you eat one with a couple big glasses of water....you WILL be going to the bathroom. LOL It cured me, around week 10 I was feeling the same way- but a nurse said to try that....what do ya know- they actually have some useful knowledge. (Just kidding all you nurses out there!) =)
It might take you two days of eating a bar and water, but it'll work. (I ate 1 the first day, then two the next...wish I had only eaten one!)

Your best defense against constipation is drinking plenty of fluids (at least 96 oz a day). I find that eating salads made of baby spinach and cucumber everyday have really helped me. I used to spend a long time in the bathroom, but now it takes me less than 5 minutes.

Best to go for a remedy that doesn't simulate and irritate the entire bowel. 1 or 2 glycerin suppositories - or a homemade soap suppository - will make you do your dirt in 10-30 minutes.

Lots of water, whole wheat bread, and maybe some prune juice. I know the last sounds gross but its safe to help loosen things up. Also maybe try a glass of Muslix. Thats what i used and it helped nicely! Congrats on your baby!

Raisins help. Dried plums or prunes are tasty snacks and they help, too. Try to include at least a fruit smoothie in your diet every day.

You need to move around alot and eat a lot of salads. Cut back on all the starches. I had the same problem.

I always enjoyed a cup of coffee, the caffeine went right through me and isn't bad for baby when kept to small amounts daily
