I need a new computer. This computer isn't mine, it is my mom's!! I only have 200 dollars. Is there a good place other than ebay (or any place like it) that I could get a GREAT deal on a computer. It doesn't matter if it's a laptop or desktop (I do have a monitor and keyboard I can use if it doesn't come with one.) It just HAS to be under 300 dollars! I only have 200 like I said but I can save my money. PLEASE help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I said Ebay or (any place like it). I meant I DO NOT WANT A PLACE LIKE EBAY!!! I do not trust Ebay/places like it. I would like to get it from the store or maker.

Go to www.yahoo.com and search using these words:
refurbished computers (also try used computers)
your town
your state (try it spelled and abbreviated)

You will probably come up with a local store that deals in used pc's - you can find a used pc for less than $100 - just make sure it already has windows on it. If you are in a very small town then try searching other local towns or just the state.

Why the problem with ebay? You can generally trust people on ebay that have a feedback of 98% or more and have been on ebay for more than 6 months and have at least 10 feedbacks. That's what I use as a guideline and I've never been ripped off. Just make sure you ask the seller questions before bidding if anything is not clear. Also, since you are buying a pc, it is fairly heavy and shipping will be expensive if you try to buy it from a very distant location. If you buy something being sold from within your state or surrounding states the shipping won't be as high. Expect to pay at least $20 though.

Your problem is that you need a copy of Windows. Unless you use Linux (not recomended for people who are not really good with computers). Windows adds $70-150 to the cost of a computer.

Here is my recomendation. Find a computer store near you, one of the small ones. Ask for a system with an AMD 3800+, 1 GB RAM, 120 GB hard drive (maybe 250 GB), and an ASUS or MSI motherboard with IGP, a DVD/CD writer, and a case with a power supply. That should run you just shy of $300. Then, transfer a copy of XP to the system from an old out of date computer. That will save some money.

If you want a pre-built system with Windows installed, Best Buy has one for $340. I know $300 was your upper limit, but maybe wait a couple of weeks and it will go down or you will raise the missing money.

If you have a MicroCenter near you, they often have very nice specials on close out product. I have seen some remarkably good prices in their stores.

Fry's sometimes sells refurbished systems for great low prices (I got a laser printer for $30 once... still works fine).

Good luck.

Check with some of your local computer repair shops. They usually have used machines for sale. Try to buy one that comes with it's software so that you can restore it if it crashes. Also, you can look in your local news paper's classified section. There are usually a few for sale there.

If you can save just a little more you can purchase a new machine for a place like Wal-Mart for just a little over $300. They now sell systems like E-Machines and Compaq without monitors, which makes them quite a bit cheaper.

Good luck and good shopping.

Hi Girl. You can't use a computer without a keyboard and monitor. Get more money.
Hugs.
