It's different for each woman. I breastfed and didn't go on the pill and my period didn't start until after I weaned my son at 12 months.

Im 35 weeks pregnant, but in all the classes i've taken, the doctors say that even with breastfeeding, you can have a period, and you can get pregnant, immediately after childbirth. (Which i dont have any idea why someone would want to do that after labor!:P) But I'm planning on breastfeeding, its just up to every womans own body.

My doctor said most women won't have a period while breastfeeding. I'm not sure exactly because I started birth control at 61/2 weeks post partum which made me start my period.

It can happen ANYTIME after you stop breastfeeding on demand. So - if they sleep through the night, take a bottle, or eat solids - you can expect your fertility to resume.
Some women it happens right away, others take longer.

Mine didn't come back until I started the weaning process at 11 months. It depends on when you start weaning. Usually when your child has started solids and is sleeping through the night you will get your period back.
