You need the make and model number for starters. Then search the net for the stigmatic you are looking for. Stigmatic's are detailed drawings how things are designed to fit together and usually they come with a parts list .

The previous poster is right about needing to know make and model and then looking up the SCHEMATIC diagram. There is enough variation in what the parts look like (and where they are) from manufacturer to manufacturer to make this necessary.

That said, there are three main components to the air conditioning system. The compressor, the evaporator and the condenser. The compressor shaft is turned by a drive belt (a separate fan belt on some cars, part of the serpentine belt on others). The evaporator is buried under the dashboard of many cars and looks like a mini radiator. This part is expensive to replace because of labor involved getting to it! The final part is the condenser which is under the hood and usually close to the firewall. Then there are a series of lines that connect all of that stuff.

Hope it helped! Good luck!
