There are people out there with more talent and way better lyrics than the ones who sell.
It just seems like you have little white kids buying your album or something. (take that statement how you wanna take it)
Trey Songz has way more talent than chris brown and neyo but people are not into real R&B and Soul.

All these are new but Trey has talent.
Any one who thinks chris and neyo are more talented is stupid or maybe you dont know real R&B.
Trey is just slepted on like many other talented people.
But what Im saying is sells doesnt really measure the amount of talent some1 has. Im just saying they should receive their due in the game.

It is about time someone spoke the truth!!! I agree, don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with being a crossover act,but some people think crossingover gives them more money, like Beyonce for example, she's not a better singer than Keyshia Cole,Alicia Keys,Jennifer Hudson,Mary J.,and Fantasia, then look at Chris Brown,he want ever be compared to the likes of Tyrese,Anthony Hamilton,Jaheim,Musiq SoulChild!! like you were saying they are not concerned about true talent..they are looking for beauty appeal, its all about being sexy and dancing, what happen to the days of getting on stage and singing your tail offf!!!..i myself dont care for all that dancing around stage, just get up and sing!!..im glad that someone else sees that its all about being commercial...true soul & r&b singers will hopefully get their justice!!..now,its all about sex, videos, bling,!!

You answered your own question pretty much.

Why do people have to become commercial to sell? Because what is commercial is what sells. Record companies are not especially interested in putting out talent, they are not especially interested in furthering a musical direction - they are interested in making money. Yes it's bad. Yes it stamps out talent in favour of bland middle of the road rubbish. Yes it means music becomes generic nonsense. Yes it means money is more important than art.

But my God does it make a lot of money.

Who buys commercial things? Everyone does! Do you buy coke? Eat at macdonalds? Use windows? Then you buy commercial things. Music is really no different. There are people who appreciate good music, but the majority of people buy middle of the road rubbish.

The definition of "commercial" means selling your product. There are always have been and always will be great artist who never sell anything. That's a good thing. A lot of art is inspired by the daily struggle for existence, the drudgery and monotony of daily labor, the fear of poverty and the pang of hunger. But your question answers itself- Commercial equals selling, its riduclous to assert that art is not commercial. BTW- Why should "artists" be paid millions anyway?
