Yes. The film the Gladiator starring Russell Crowe depicts slavery during the Roman empire. You may also want to watch Hero, which depicts the story of how modern day China was formed through as a series of regional conflicts that pitted different ethnicities against one another. And of course the Jewish/Arab and English/Irish conflicts go way back before colonialism.

It's existed as long as the human race has existed, in some form or other. Who do you think built all those pyramids?......Slaves built them! There has always been some group of people exploiting another group for their own benefit. It's wrong, and it's high time we put a stop to it, but it existed a long time before the Americans became involved. We can't take the blame for that.

Yes - what makes you think there wasn't. BTW it was tribal 'racism' in Africa that set up the conditions for non-African states to buy 'slaves' on the West coast of Africa. Genetic studies have shown that the descendents of the slaves came from all over Africa - yet they were sold mostly in the West African coastal states.

Yes, I knew that, and slavery existed amongst people in Europe, too. The big difference is that as opposed to slavery based on race, slaves in both Africa and Europe were accepted into society, allowed to marry whomever they wanted, and the offspring WEREN'T slaves, as opposed to the slavery practiced in the Americas...

Yes, afraid so. It's part of our make up. It was apparent in the Greek wars, the Roman period. So it's not a modern concept, as long as there's been a them and us mentality there's been racism.
