It is not much different than (in philosophical terms) as 'do we have to sleep'. In the most profound terms, death is part of life. For those who believe in 're-birth', it is the 'sleep' before the 'awakening'....

well what ever way you look at it you can not survive forever. remember people (well not all people) choose to die. it just happens. we are not obeying a command coz we dont decide when its our time to go, we just go. the proof is that everyone dies sometime. no one who was born 200 years ago is still alive so there is your proof. no one lives forever. maybe in the future scientists will discover a way to make people live forever but until then...im afraid it is follow the leader! if you find a way out let me know!

A fundamental question for both sides of the isle, religion and science.
It is difficult to argue for the side religion as they have "faith" in their teachings and make the assumption (in a good way) that our bodies are not the end of existence and that life (not necessarily in the way we know it) goes on for eternity so long as we abide by those teachings.
I, however, do not fall into that category. Although I am not atheistic in it's fundamental definition ( I consider myself to be agnostic or even spiritual but not necessarily "christian").
There are fascinating theories in science and biology though. I am not a scientist so my explanation may be very crude and layman.
The theory that strikes me most is that within our gene structure, for whatever reason, are "on and off switches". On a molecular level they start dying off for no apparent reason. All of our molecules have an innate ability to repair themselves. There is, according to test labs, another gene that after a certain period of time begins to repress this repairing ability. In those test labs scientists have been able to switch those repairing suppressive genes "off" and have been able to extend the life of a particular worm by 5 times it's normal life span.
If that ability were to be able to be replicated in humans, that would mean a lifespan of 300-500 years! Scientists claim that the human genome is hundredfold more complex than the worms are and admit this may never be translated to humans. But, they are optimistic that sometime, if not in our lifetime, but future generations may benefit from this discovery.

well, your bidy is just a shell isnt it. lets put death i another way, call it gradual decay. we are like everything else, we have life and live it to the full we contribute what we have to the world we live it and we die i beleive because it is our time to leave the earth.nothing lives for any length of time does it, its more a fact of life. and the answer to your question , do we have to die, yes we do, its a form of rebirth and generation and we die to leave room for the children that must inhabit the world. I dont think its anything to do with the bible ot be honest.it just happens to be there, people have been preaching about god and gods for thousands of years and have blamed death on gods and god.
This is a question that you will probabley not have an answer to in your life time. Death is what happens. it is a mystery and inevitability of life. good question:)

I don't believe in the bible either, but I do think we have to die because our bodies were not meant to survive forever. We all must die because it is part of the natural life cycle. We must die in order to make room for the new people being born. If we didn't, how would we all fit.

The only answers to your question delve into the metaphysical and even to the realm of what people classify as fiction.
When you analyze some of the books written by man, you will read records of men living hundreds of years. These days, one would be lucky to hit 100.
Wouldnt the answer to your question be realistically "Because he wants to" He might have felt that it was not ok to live 400 yrs, his body became too weak, he became a burden to his family, and man- he was not having fun anymore.

The Bible was changed by King Constantine in 324 Ad with his click of scribes. So thanks for using your God given intelligence. If you want the original before he changed it google gospelofthenazirenes.com Jesus originally taught karma, reincarnation and no one goes to hell eternally. We are not this material body, IE; race, color, nationality, religion, job, mind, intellect, senses, etc. We are all eternal spirit souls, part and parcel of the Supreme Soul, also known as Krishna, Allah, Jehovah, Vishnu, etc. We never die, only our body dies. This world is not our real home, it is called Maya (illusion) and is temporary and full of misery. Only one fourth of the souls come here and the rest are enjoying eternal blissful, loving relationships with our Maker named above. If we want to never take a material body that suffers again then we must take up the process of Self realization (bhakti Yoga) which culminates in the chanting of the Maha Mantra, (The great mantra for deliverance from all suffering and illusion) For info read Bhagavad Gita as it is By Bhaktivedanta PRabhupada asitis.com you can read it on line. also go to harekrishnatemple.com This process is Transcendental and brings one to their constitutional position full of wisdom and and bliss. That is who you truly are We are only suffering due to karma and illusion. We can be free from all that and never die. The soul never dies only the body dies.
