an 'engagement' can be as little as nodding to a diplomat, This is still counted as an engagment, also i read the queen has enjoyed over three months holiday a year, all her life, and in the winter, visits are always arranged to nice warm countries.

Absolutely true. If you follow the court circulars you can see that some of these "engagements" last as little as 15 minutes so they can fit in as many as 4 in one day. This makes the total for the year look impressive and can include things like simply having lunch or dinner with somebody.

The Queen is never really "on holiday" -- those red boxes follow her wherever she goes, she is never, ever, really truly "off the clock," and she is never, ever out from under the microscope of constant public observation. She doesn't have a 9-5 job with weekends off. For 54 years on the throne, and years of being the Heir Presumptive prior to that, she has lived in a very public fishbowl. Even fish like to hide behind a rock, sometimes, so I don't begrudge her "vacations", such as they are. She only has an illusion of privacy -- lots of guards, lots of walls, lots of security, but let's face it -- many of us know more about the Queen than we do about our next door neighbor. How many of us could live like that without getting really, really cranky?

These engagements are so boring and as for the holidays, well the poor old multi-billionaire dear is so hard done by! Let's give her a 'well-earned' rest. Remove her wealth and property, they are such a worry to her. Remove her titles, she'll be able to relax so much more as an 'ordinary' person. Find her a nice little council flat, just big enough for her and Phil the Greek. Grant them the basic state pensions and the winter heating allowance. How much happier and stress free she will be!

if you've ever been stuck in a tall castle for years on end eating nothing but jello-ed liverworst and your only conversation daily is a nod in one direction with a gaurd who's non-responsive on a consistant basis - wouldn't you want to get out sometime? Not that that answers the question here, but i thought that it was a funny response.
