I want to learn and I'm using an online tutorial, but ppl keep telling me that computer programming is a waste of time. I don't think so, but there are more against it than for it that i know.
thanks :)

It's funny that people tell you that it's a waste of time. You must not know very many programmers. :)

As a programmer myself, I can honestly and firmly say that yes it is worth it! Once you understand the basic concepts and can write a few simple programs, you'll definitely get the urge to learn more. The only limit is how far you want to go.

It may be a bit dull in the beginning while you are learning about loops, variables, pointers, etc, but keep at it because it is very necessary to learn the basics before you get to the really cool stuff.

Before you know it you'll be able to write almost any program you can think of.

Waste if time?? LOL Tell Bill Gates that and see what he says....

Hell no it;s not a waste. Programming is still a valued skill and someting that will be needed as long as we keep making computers. Programming is they way to work with the electonic clay to make what you want to make. If the comuter doesnt perform a certain function , through programming it can be made to do so...

For me ever since i wrote my first Hello world Program and saw that it was me that made the comuter say hello world on the screen i was hooked. its not a waste and i encourage you to go for it. Maybe one day you may assist in my lifes dream to bring a true artificial intelligence to that machine...My apologies to the people of the future when they get too smart and figure out they dont need us. then its terminator time, or matrix or any other movie you can thing of when the machines decide to take over....

It's worth it if you're really nitpicky: and if you expect that, someday, sometime, you expect that the computer just won't act the way you want, and no one out in the world has figured out how to tell it HOW to act the way you want (that is, no one has written a program or piece of software you can buy, or afford to buy, that tells the computer how to work, in the way you want!)

If you learn how to write programs, then you can get the derned computer to act EXACTLY the way you want!

Other thing is, if you learn to write programs really well, and want to spend say 8 hours a day doin' it, you COULD make boqoo bucks!

It depends on what you want to achieve. If you are doing it for fun or additional knowledge, why not. If you want to do it as a proffessional, it may take you longer time than you will like to achieve proffessioalism. There are many ready made programs out there to solve all kind of problems and many of them you can get as share ware ( free). Why bothering yourself learning how to re invent the wheel.

Good luck.
