It's the other way around, Cons become Libs with time. PROOF: Look at Europe and the USA just 50 years ago and compare it to now. The USA Is very liberal and the only bastions of conservatism are in the farms and desolate areas where progress hasn't arrived.

I see what you're saying, and I agree. What's "liberal" now will be conservative in 20 yrs.....I see it. I mean, not that long ago, people wouldn't have dreamed of showing nudity or curse words on regular TV!! And b/f that, women never wore pants, etc. Those aren't even issues among "conservatives" now. How much do you think they were against them 50 yrs ago?

Perhaps so. Does this mean we are going in the wrong direction? Womens rights, blacks rights... I think we are trying to move forward. Even gays deserve rights. They are still human beings. I am against homosexuality, but gays need love not hate. All people need love. It is the ignorance of people of others that has caused this segregation.

Hey, doesn't the convicted rapist/murderers/child molesters still have rights? Should everyone.

agree with steve, above.

Broadly speaking, liberalism emphasizes individual rights and equality of opportunity. A liberal society is characterized by freedom of thought for individuals, limitations on power, the rule of law, the free exchange of ideas, a market economy, free private enterprise, and a transparent system of government in which the rights of all citizens are protected. In the 21st century, this usually means liberal democracy with open and fair elections, where all citizens have equal rights by law

for some people yes.. though not for everyone.

You see.. some people are liberal because they see things they want changed.. and they set out to change them.. by definition that makes them liberal... when those changes have been accomplished, they set out to halt change and keep in tact the very things they have fought their entire life for... that by definition makes them conservative.

again.. this isn't everyone.. but holds true for some.

I would say that's backwards.

By the standards of thirty years ago, people like Clinton (corporate capitalists) would be considered conservatives. However, the Republican party has moved so far to the right in pursuit of evangelical votes that they've left the mainstream behind
