When we face a particular situation our mind very very quickly analyzes it in the light of our experience, observation, knowledge and result/outcome what had been under the same situation in the past. This process helps us in sensing the possible result/outcome in the situation which we are facing now. This ,in my opinion, is the sixth sense and this is how it works.
The result/outcomes are not always as we sense because of a slight difference in the past situation and present situation at its completion. There is nothing supernatural and beyond reason and logic in this world as I believe and experienced. If somebody claims this then he is a liar. If it is something supernatural then outcome/result must be the same all the time as it was sensed/claimed.

A "sense" or "awareness" that cannot be explained by the 5 common senses of sight, hearing, smelling, tasting and feeling.
Studies on the paranormal prove it does exist. In Russia, starting after WWII, their scientists spent a good deal of time and money studying the paranomal, including ghosts, etc. In the U.S., there are so many studies proving its existance. Apparently, every one has it, but for some people it is heightened to the extent of being actually useful much of the time. For the rest of us, it will show up now and then as "an odd feeling", a "premonition" if you will, that something is not right or that someone is in the room, even though you can not see or hear anyone.

Hey,
Sixth sense is an ability to perceive things in ways, which transcend the use of the traditional five senses; also known as intuition or inspiration --- in other words "having an insight"

Is There a Sixth Sense?
Some experts claim that hunches might actually foretell the future. Others aren't so sure

Ever have a hunch, an instinct or an intuition? Research psychologist Dean Radin, Ph.D., claims that hunches might actually foretell the future. The University of Oregon's Ray Hyman, Ph.D., however, isn't so sure

sixth sense is intuition, it is in the 6th chakra. Some of us have more, some have less. It depends on how we feel through that sense, how we are developing that kind of understanding, not from perception, nor from reason, just from third eye.
There are people that just know at once.

power of perception seemingly independent of the five senses; keen intuition
Sixth sense or subtle perception ability is our ability to perceive the subtle dimension or the unseen world of angels, ghosts, heaven, etc. It also includes our ability to understand the subtle cause and effect relationship behind many events, which is beyond the understanding of the intellect. Extrasensory perception (ESP), clairvoyance, premonition, intuition are synonymous with sixth sense or subtle perception ability. .
