"Support" is just another word for "protect", so when we support a country we are actually protecting them, but as a bottom line we are then protecting ourselves.

We don't support the world so much as spend money to maintain existing governments, or create new ones, that will hopefully serve the best economic interests of the United States. For example: Oil in the United States is cheap because our government spends a fortune to ensure that eventuality. If they didn't Americans, individuals and corporations, would be paying twice as much for a gallon of gas or heating oil. Either way money is going to be spent but cheaper oil helps to elevate the burden that more expensive oil would put on the lower middle classes and the working poor in the form of not just higher gas and heating oil prices but higher prices on consumable and non consumable goods.

We are rapidly becoming like Mexico and why the Mexicans are leaving. They have a super rich class that controls everything and pays very few if any taxes. Then the super poor that even though they make 2. dollars a day pay 10% in taxes and the middle class which is like 13% pays all the taxes. But they do not have any government sponsored programs. Old people who can not work simply starve to death if they don't have children who can feed them.
They are unable to go to a doctor for major illness. If they get sick they die for the want of maybe a pencilin shot.
ONly the rich and middle class has medical care. Orphans or just children from poor familys beg in the streets or prostitue themselves for enough money to eat.
Do we really want to treat our poor that way?
Is it that the Rich should be able to treat humans that are poor worst than slaves? In the deep south were slavery was in style. They got food, clothes and even medical care. They were given a house to live in even if it was a shack it was a roof over their head and one day off a week. A small garden spot to grow some of their own food. They were labor they wouldn't let them starve to death they cost to much.
The poor Mexicans it is said are not treated as good as the black slave in the south in the USA was. that is pretty bad.
They do not have access to police protection from the rich who works for the rich. So yes they are beaten and left for dead. The only difference they are not out any money because they didn't buy them in the first place.
We need to pass laws to protect ourselves from the rich.

Geez, where do you live?? Fairy Land??
Middle class Americans make up 5% of the global population, yet consume (or waste) 95% of its resources.
The only thing you do to support the planet is keep the dustbin men in employment.

That is very good question. I guess until the middle class dries up. I particularly enjoy paying for the medical care and education of ILLEGAL "immigrants." They get this for nothing, but if my kid breaks his arm it costs me $15,000. Nice.

That is the truth. And really, there isn't a middle class anymore. I can see social revolt coming.
