My husband said he wants an early retirement, want to be retired at 50, I told him, he better start his own business if he does, I just can't watch idolness from a man

I'm not using him, I have work too, I just think a man is not a man if he stays at home and watch children. His status as man of the house is reduced.

when it comes nearer the time he might change his mind, but it is his choice and you should support him. Plus it might work out better because you can be the one coming home to a cooked meal instead of the other way around and your husband should be doing all the house chores or try and turn him off saying that the chores would be left to him if he retired early!

hope i helped xx

If you are already home, then your attitude sounds a bit outdated, if he can afford to retire early. You do need a plan as far as hobbies, interest etc. That is true of any retiree.

If you would continue to work, then perhaps you have a point, especially if it is your work that makes his early retirement possible

But generally speaking, some people can retire early because they planned well. I have $850k stashed and just turned 57. I hope to retire before 65.

Early retirement does not necessarily equal idleness... My husband basically retired early and I loved it... I made more than enough money for the two of us, plus his "pension" check.. It was nice to come home to a house that was clean, dishes washed, laundry done.. if only he was a good cook, too! He was not idle- he busied himself with home repairs, gardening and had a hobby of buying boats / campers, fixing them up, and selling them for a profit... I loved coming home from a long day and not having to spend our evening together cleaning, cooking, and doing laundry (like when he was working out of the home.)

if you cant watch idolness from a man, after your husband retires you can get a job plain and simple.. the man deserves some R & R .

Sounds to me like you are a pretty selfish person. It looks to me like you would be happy that he gets to retire, probably after many years of hard work. He has just shifted, and will now work around the house.

Stop using him.

Shame on you!

50 is really early to retire. 55 i can understand. but that is if you guys are in good standing financially. if you guys are still really young i wouldnt worry. it is just talk. if i could retire tomorrow i would, and im 24

Sure, why not. Besides unless you are home being idle (not idol) yourself, you won't have to "watch idolness from a man"...you can be working your day job and coming home as usual...what he does while you're out for the day, is his business. ☺

I'm a stay at home housewife who actually
didn't hate housework. My husband retired
a little early 8 years ago and I can't stand him
relaxing while I'm still doing housework that I
now dislike and resent. I feel I got a life sentence.

Why? He can't have a hobby? You don't want to travel? There is nothing around your house you don't want done that he can fix or change? Why should he have to work all his life?
