I recently lost my rent money order without it being filled out. Not even the stub was kept because I just got it and being stressed out I don't know what happened to it. Im freaking out because we are late with the rent now, and I have been looking for it like a freak all weekend. Any action I can take. I purchased it at a cash checking place. Im going to call them later on in the day and see what they say. I think Im pretty much sol and getting kicked out. Please help!

Just a quick update, I called the check cashing place and they found my money order num. and gave me the company phone. number. I called and they won't do anything except faxed me a claim and said she will put a warning on their system but it is not guarenteed. So.....I did what I could and I know I totally screwed up so don't remind me, but thanks for all the info!

Call the seller NOW! If you didn't fill out the MO and keep the copy (with proof that it was filled out!) then losing a MO is like losing cash. If you don't contact the seller before someone else cashes it, there's NO WAY to recover the funds. Waiting until "later in the day" could cost you dearly. Go there IMMEDIATELY!

you call that cash checking place and see if they can void that MO and then re issue another one. I used to work where we did MO's and we were not allowed to, but its worth a shot. If they cant do it (prob not), ask for the customer service # for the company who issued the MO. If its a western union MO, the # is 1-800-999-9660. Follow the prompts and talk to a rep. Ask them if they can cancel that MO out of the database and send you a check for the Mo amount (may be a fee). Now- if someone found that MO you lost and it's blank-- they can fill it out and put their name on it and cash it a check cashing place, their bank, or even deposit into their bank acct. I really hope you find it or find a solution. If you've been on time with management for your rent, maybe they will understand, but just remember they have a job to do and they don't have to show sympathy. depending on how late you pay, there may be legal fees, but if its paid in full before they can take you to court, you should be OK. Remember to ALWAYS fill out your MO when you get it. so if you do lose it, no one who finds it can cash it and its more likely you van get it re issued from the Mo comapany. GOOD LUCK

Even if you have a receipt and the cash checking place starts the refund process, it will take some time. They have to wait to see if anyone cashes it. So it could be several months.

Start looking for other resources to pay your rent.
