Many Americans seem to forget that the war in Afghanistan is even going on right now. Afghanistan is in worse shape now than ever because our military is stretched so thin. I can't say I agree with how the war in Iraq is going and can't help but feel Afghanistan needs to be better controlled. 90% of the world opium production occurs in Afghanistan with the majority being imported to the US. If you ask me this form of terrorism has a greater impact on our citizen’s everyday lives. I know doing drugs in a personal choice and I'd never do drugs but most violence in our society stems from drug dealing or drug addiction. Thoughts?

Afghanistan is being neglected because of the failed Iraq war. This is very bad.

I originally thought you were making the case that Bush's illegal war of choice that is based upon a filthy pack of lies that has resulted in the slaughter of over 400.000 innocent Iraqi civilians was a major mistake because it not only turned a TERRORIST free Iraq into a TERRORIST haven and caused a ten-fold increase in al qaida but most importantly it took our "eyes off the ball" and that ball is Afghanistan where Bin Laden lived and where the Taliban today is re-establishing itself.

Now I discover your concern isn't all these profound issues but rather the important but RELATIVELY trivial issue of drugs and like a typical American who always blame everybody else for their problems and mistakes ,YOU blame the poor Afghan farmers etc for all the consequences of drugs/drug addiction.

LISTEN UP !!!!!

AMERICA HAS A DRUG PROBLEM BECAUSE SOME/MANY AMERICANS CHOOSE/CHOSE TO USE DRUGS AND NOT BECAUSE SOME POOR AFGHAN FARMER WANTED TO GROW OPIUM ETC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What the hell are you effectively blaming Afghans for YOUR COUNTRY"S drug problem.

As an American capitalist ,you Americans more than any others knows that IF YOU STOP THE DEMAND YOU STOP THE SUPPLY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So instead of carpet bombing Columbia and AFGHANISTAN to stop the supply of drugs (and in the process KILL innocent civilians) YOU need to carpet bomb places like Hollywood or New York City where drug usage is high.Again,STOP THE DEMAND !!!!!!!

Now I realize that being mostly good little Christians ,the life of an American is a thousand times as sacred as the life of all others but until YOU STOP THE DEMAND ,the supply will always be there if not from Afghanistan then somewhere else.

This drug problem which you describe is a type of TERRORISM is de facto a type of TERRORISM WHICH YOU AMERICANS BY YOUR CHOOSING TO USE DRUGS CREATED YOURSELF !!!!

And this applies as well to the real terrorist problem but again Americans blame everyone else but themselves .

I was for Afghanistan and against Iraq and havent changed. You are right about the drugs. I think its just more money for the CIA to fund operations like Iran Contra.

Free trade would help Afghan agriculture giving farmers an option to grow food that they can sell for a decent price.

If we are to win hearts and minds, we need to help the Afghan people as well as kill terrorists.

I think we should leave the troop levels up to the Military. We are in there along with France, Russia, Canada, UK and about 40 other countries.
