Where are they going black from, the stem? I use this site http://www.irecognisethat.com/show_question.php?question=Corn&id=226 to help with my gardening issues. If you put a photo on there people can diagnose better!

It has been quite warm and very wet recently. Blight seems to be the obvious answer. If caught early enough you can treat with Dithane but if very bad throw them out. Do not compost the remains as you will re infest the soil next year. Do not grow potatoes in this bit of soil for 3 years either.

Sounds like Black Bottom Rot (Blossom end rot) . Caused by either under or over watering and a lack of calcium in the soil. You cannot save to ones that are already blck, but can add calcium to help save the rest.
