Well I'm a bloke and i have no kids, but if i remarried and my girl had any i think absents in the delivery room on my part would make it less pain full.

I was in labor for 43 1/2 hours. I had EVERYTHING under the sun.

For the first 37 hours I was a cowboy and only did relaxation and walking. It was effective and just like a period for me.

Then transition hit (after cirvidel.).

I had nubane. It didnt even take the edge off.

Then I had stadol. The second that stuff hit the IV I went clypto and started telling people I was the king of china. It was like being super drunk, and having surgery at the same time. And no memory. The pain was less, but the hight of the contractions were still unbearable.

THEN i had a spinal morphine. THE BEST FREAKING STUFF EVER. The pain was so little that I would laugh and talk, even through pushing. THere was no more pain until the head crowned. Then pain like holy freaking high hell for about 4 seconds and it all was over.

Epidural all the way!!! No one will make you a saint for having a baby with no pain meds and modern science has made such strides in pain control. Anyone who doesn't use epidural is just crazy!! (just a little humor guys) There were no side effectsa on me or my baby and I was able to really bond and appreciate my baby because I wasn't busy thinking about the pain. The breathing really helped too. Visualization was great I breathed deeply and imagined I was in a happy place! :)

I used breathing techniques and a hot whirlpool bath, until transition. Then the pain became too much and I asked for an epidural. The doctor who administered it was wonderful, and after a few minutes I felt nothing from the waist down.

epidural- I don't think anything kills pain better than that. I have to say that breathing techniques did help some in early labor....until I could get my epidural, that is! I could feel enough by the end to push with no problem, not in agony, and it took less than an hour of pushing too.

Hello:

The most effective drug for me was the epidural because I felt SO MUCH BETTER after I had it! It made my labor go so much faster because I wasn't in so much pain and I could just kiss the person who invented the epidural!! ;-)

I was given 2 doses of Stadol through my IV (don't know if that medication is still available) and then I got an epidural - best decision I ever made!

Epidural was the best. It killed the pain, yet let me dilate and efface at a good rate, and I was able to push the babies out.

Demerol made me woozy and sick, plus clouded my memory.

Spinal made me feel like I was suffocating and I had a panic attack--2 times.

Epidural (my first baby)

But I still prefer unmedicated labor - no drugs (my last two babies). That way you can feel to push and you feel a sense of accomplishment when you successfully deliver a baby even though you were in terrible pain.

Breathing techiniques worked for me better than anything else. That coupled with educating myself as to what is to come. The unknown is scary & can cause additional pain, so I found out all I could in advance.

I liked laboring in a bath tub. With my daughter it was a regular standard sized tub, it helped alot during the transition time. For my second birth I gave birth in the tub.
