It is often the case that employers will check references of past employers. You could say that you were going to school, or unemployed, or perhaps you could say you were working in the family business or something. All of these excuses have a downside. You could say that you don't want your current employer contacted because you don't want them to know you are looking. I understand your concern but you should be careful about getting caught in a lie, because then employers won't hire you.
Good luck,
Dana

Yeah unfortunately they can, and any reputable company will because they will want all in formation pertaining to any previous jobs you list. Again any reputable company will see lying during an application process as possible grounds for not hiring you or firing you after finding out passed your potential hire date. Its best to tell the truth, you can always ask why you were'nt hired and ask that employer for any advice that they can divulge. If you have any kids however you could use the excuse that you were a stay at home mom while your boyfriend worked and since your break up you have gone to look for a new job. Or simply just leave the past years alone and just list it as unemployed and take it form there. Good Luck!

Whatever information you place on your employment application can be verified by a potential employer. So, don't lie about working for a company you have never worked for. You are better off giving an explaination for your break in employment by stating you were caring for a sick relative, etc. Something that explains the break, but does not involve lying about your employment.
(Also, I assumed that when you said you were a dancer, that it was a kind of dancing you were ashamed of (something a potential employer would look down on.)) If this is not the case, it is not harmful to state you were doing something unrelated to the job/field you are applying for - especially if it is something you were passionate about.

Yes ,they can (and will). All your records of past employment is easily accessed now-a-days through the Internet.
Why would being a dancer be a problem? Just say you did that for the past six years, but want the challenge of design.
Seems to me, being a dancer would show you have dedication. That's an asset in any field.

They CAN, yes.
Whether they will is a crapshoot, but while they might not go through your whole history they would almost certainly call your last employer.
Just tell the truth: That the 6 yo design job was your last in the field and that you tried something else for a while, but design suits you, so you want to get back into it.

sure and sure. many times emplyoers lie just to get you for the time of the door. yet having reported that it relies upon on the point of your activity. while you're no longer at a Managerial/Director point then you definately regularly get a sh*t load of fake can provide. The exaplme of your boss making you circulate in over Easter - did you "assume" you have been off? became this easter trip written into your settlement? Did you ask him on the weeke before in case you we are off? it variety of feels slightly atypical that he called you and made you circulate in. the only reason he would make you do it is that in case you hadn't controlled to do what became required of you for the time of the week maximum excellent as much as the trip journeys. maximum jobs will require you to paintings circumstances outdoors your ordinary working hours to end your activity requirments. Ie: Unpaid time beyond regulation. I recommend while beginning a sparkling activity you ask the corporation in case you're able to do a week path before everything so which you would be able to see no remember if it is nice for you and so which you would be able to communicate with the different memebers of team to get a sense for the region and notice if the staff are satisfied. Any organisation that won;t assist you are trying this ios no longer somewhat worth working for as they often have some thing to conceal. once you recieve your settlement something you don;t understand or choose clarification on ask the HR branch or your line supervisor. I additionally reccommend which you make certain you're taking a job you like instead of the 1st one that is on the market to you. via now after being lied to you would be waiting to be certain by way of an interviewer mendacity. circulate with your gut feeling and verify you get a seem on the places of work/paintings atmosphere. back, in the event that they do no longer seem to be keen to provide help to seem around - do no longer settle for the activity!!! good success! x

Yes, they will ask you if they can call them to get a reference but will be suspicious if you tell them no. Be truthful with your prospective employer, they are more likely to hire you if you tell the whole truth than if you lie to them because if they find out, there will be no chance that they will hire you.

Yes, if you files taxes, your SSN will be able to verify your past employer and salary. Most don't go to that level.
