Do you think India is really economically growing strong... Or are we in a temporary money illusion?

The development, so far, we see is NOT from govt sector. The govt especially state govts are doing their best to drag us behind with popular policies like free color tv or excessive reservation policy not only in studies - it goes beyond till the employment (probably death of the candidate:) I am not sure!)... are we really developing in all fronts.. Or there is something that we are really missing to catch up with.

Let me start with a story that has nothing to do with India. Zhou Enlai was once asked by a French journalist what he thought about the French revolution of 1793. Zhou Enlai said, "it is too soon to tell".

The same can be said about India. There is no denying that the country is making enormous progress. There is also no denying that the government policies are not particularly supportive of that progress. The problem, as I see it (and being half-world away, I am not necessarily seeing it correctly), is that there is still a very large percentage of Indian population that makes a living by subsistence farming. So whatever exciting stuff happens in Bangalore or Chennai, it is of little benefit to the villagers, who are still in the majority in India. So, in my opinion, one area India needs to catch up on is bringing about major and positive change to the countryside. Having said that, I must admit that I have no idea how this is to be done; I simply do not know enough about the Indian countryside...

U're right, the growth appears to be only superficial. The fruits of growth are not penetrating down to every common man residing in remote corners of the country. This will widen not only the rich-poor gap but there will be growing regionalism leading to regional feudalism. We need a corrupt free political system. Mostly our politicians are uneducated, mafias, killers etc. they are getting elected & they do every thing to fill up their coffers. Basically our poilticians are not the national leaders but they are only politicians & in our country becomming a politician is a business & as all sons/daughters step into their fathers shoes, every polticians' children have ventured into politics or started a business with their fathers' backing & now established as businessmen. This is a mockery of the democracy. Democracy is a Govt for the people, by the people. But here it is Govt (public) money is for me & for my family only.

India is simply the global corporate machines latest cheap slave labor pool commodity. The native people have long been held so impoverished by corrupt governing leadership that global corporate giants can come in offering pitifully low-wage paying jobs and people will flock to them because its better than what they've had.

Make no mistake this scenario doesn't help the impoverished masses in the long term (Mexico was once the chosen cheap labor source, and there is still China). The poor experience limited success while the rich corporates simply get richer.

India is headed for serious trouble. There is a false sense of financial security all around us. Financial institution of any shape or form are giving away money. This is bad news for the consumer who finds it tough to make the monthly instalment. It is then the lenders have got us by the proverbials. We are not a rich country and therefore we run the risk of losing it all.
