Let's just say a spouse goes to thier brothers house or Mothers house once a month or so, drinks, and then spends the night. Would you think it's strange for someone to do this? Do you or your spouse take little overnight trips like this?

What is wrong with it? If there is no life other than every day in and out with your spouse then you would get bored of them and the marrieage would suffer. Time apart once in a while can be theraputic.

I don't know how I would feel about that. I have been married for 5 years and my husband and when he goes to family members homes to drink, I get a phone call if he is too drunk to drive home.

The only times he we have not been together at night is when I was in the hospital having his kid or when he works over night and then I can't sleep without him so I call him all night.

It sounds funny to be but it doesn't have to be. Why don't you do a little bit of investigation yourself or ask him if you can go with him next time.

You've not mentioned wether the spouse is 'he' or 'she', but it looks like a 'he'.

Well...it probably means your spouse needs a breather from time to time. One way to look at it is to ask yourself "are you too demanding in how he spends his time?. Do you keep inquiring what's he been up to all day?"

Perhaps he wants a breather without hurting your sentiments. Give him some space. Sometimes, by letting go you earn greater respect and stronger bond with your spouse.

Most couples need some time alone...if you get too restrictive on him it may get worse.

Well if they're hanging out with family and drinking then I'd think it's better for them to spend the night and be safe.

He can spend all the time he wants with friends and family BUT he needs to come home otherwise this is suspicious behavior.

I think it is safer than driving drunk :). Once a month is a litte excessive, but if he is at his families house...I wouldn't worry too much.
