clean the inside of you re car don't leave anything like clothes or stuff because it will absorb the smell, buy cleaners or better yet take it to a place that details and tell them to shampoo or steam clean the inside of you re car, buy fabrezz unscented and spray the inside. when the smell of smoke or mildue produces in a car its hard to remove some say its easy but they recommend things that cover the smell up not things that get rid of it.
A very important note is to never leave the window open when it rain it will produce the most foul smell, i had worked at a shop where a customer who smoked alot brought his car to get his window replaced it had rained the previous day the smell was so bad that we had to where mask to work on the car

Here's an inexpensive and fragrance free solution that is perfect for your problem. - I know many other people that use it. It is a natural fragrance free carbon product called FRIDGE IT odor absorbers. It is a little purple cube with an incredible activated carbon filter inside that is really, really, great and eliminates the odors and for a long time. It works so much better than baking soda all those sprays, and fragrances that just cover up smells and doesn't get rid of them. Just put one or two in car and trunk. No spills or chemicals or powder to worry about. Each only costs a couple of dollars. I use this product everywhere including car(smoke and pet smells), storage, closets, my fridge and also under sinks, near trash and have friends that use it on cat litter box and also diaper pails - it's that good. I really recommend it. You can buy it in kitchen gadget sections in stores like linens and things. I also think camping world sells it and Internet at customerservice@innofresh.com.
Definitely worth trying

The tobacco smell would have be all over the car. You will need to get it to a detailing shop and have the interior cleaned and shampoo.
A quick but not permanent fix is to leave kitty litter in the car overnight. This would absorb some of the lingering smell but not remove it entirely.

Vacuum out your car real good. Spray Febreze all over the interior. Also get some Bounce or other nice smelling Fabric softner sheets & put 1 or 2 under each seat on the floor.

this is a very inexpensive way to do it...
1- clean all windows and remove all mats
2-sprinkle baking powder on all fabrics..leave all doors closed and leave windows up for an hour or so...
3-vacuum..then clean off dash with good cleaner..
4-get some dryer sheets put them on the seats and on the floor..leave the car over night..
5- meanwhile wash all mats
6- open up all doors and let air in car circulate..
then you are done..I worked in car rental and thats how we did it..Works like a charm..costs about 7 dollars ..just takes a little time

Go to wal-mart or any store like that.. go in the automotive section and there are Frebreeze car scents that you spray in your car that smells amazing that will get the awful cigarette smell out. The guy who owned my car was a previous smoker, and I managed to get it out after awhile of spraying things in it.

have the carpet in the car washed if the seats are material have them cleaned also if leather then go over all the seats with a leather cleaner. basicly if you can afford to have it detailed from the inside do, that will get rid of the smell.

You might want to open the doors or windows to air the car out. You might also try buying cans of scent. My personal favorite is "new car smell".
