Ah ha, I see - - did forming this question keep you up all night?
I love how instead of just accepting that there are bad decisions in every party, regardless of who is President, we now have to relate it to Religion? Why not the food dyes in their food, or the brand of kleenex they use?

I love questions like these... Instead of a Yahoo! Answers section they should have a section entitled "half-brained statements" where people can post things that, in all honesty, they don't even want any responses to.
As far as "bad" religion, all you're doing is showing yourself to be a bigot against Christianity. Sure, all religions have flaws, but to say that the US has "bad religion" and "Old Testament" morals is sort of an unfounded statement. Exactly what "Old Testament" values are you trying to claim as flawed? Not killing, stealing, or lying? The thing that all religious (and anti-religious) zealots need to get through their heads is that the morals that are held by faiths all over the world are UNIVERSAL. Here in the US we fight tooth and nail to keep religion out of the classroom, but what does "right and wrong" have to do with "religion"? Can't it be argued that those Old Testament beliefs are just good moral compasses by which all people can, should, and usually do abide?
As far as bad policy decision I suggest you stop bashing religion and go buy The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli. Bad policy decisions and faulty decisions are more based in the fact that power is corrupting then by any religious practices. Perfect examples: Nixon/Kissinger goes to China to open diplomatic channels with them. The result is an opening of the tensions between us and it is lauded as a policy success. If it had gone wrong, however, people would have gone nuts calling Nixon a Communist-lover. Reagan and his administration make a deal with Iran that goes wrong and it is considered one of our worst policy failures. If it had succeeded, however, perhaps Iran would be at least slightly less aggressively anti-American today.
US policy decisions are based in one thing and one thing alone: What is best for the country and what helps to maintain Washington DC as the Rome of our time. Some of these decisions go well, some of them fail. Our country is based on Judeo-Christian beliefs, but believe me when I tell you that no US President, Republican or Democrat, would hesitate to violate one of those beliefs if it was in the immediate interest of the US. They would never make a decision that was detrimental to the country for the sake of doing what the "Old Testament" says, which suggests that the Bible is second to the interests of the United States.

Religion itself is not bad. Religious people who know nothing else and who do not wish to educate themselves on anything else are bad.
Regardless of what people are told, the US is without question a Judeo-Christian country. Simple fact. It was NOT founded by Judeo-Christians in the sense that many people believe--while the founders were raised in a Judeo-Christian culture, they were for the most part Deists, which is the safest 'religion' that exists. However, when most Americans are Baptists or some other form of fundamentalist Christianity, there is obviously room for lack of improvement.
Yet the decisions of the government are not based on its 'bad religion' any more than Bin Laden's decisions are linked to his 'bad religion.' In both cases, it is linked to 'bad people.'
And mfl_football, you need to do some reserach on the Old Testament because the OT mortals are not as clean-cut as you seem to believe. Nowhere does it say 'no killing.' In fact, quite frequently, killing is requested by 'God.' The commandment of 'Do not murder' is not the same as 'killing.'

No -- the problem isn't based on what people believe.
The problem comes when people make decisions based on purely emotional reactions and rumor -- rather than logically analyzing their choices and consequences.
It doesn't matter whether those emotional reactions or assumptions are religious-based or not -- the problem is with the decision-making process, not the source of the initial thought.

If the U.S. stuck to the Old Testament than trying to be PC about it things would be a whole lot better.
The problem comes is when you think you know more than G-d is time He will show the errors of your ways.
Case in point the DNC went after Lieberman and what did they get for their effort.
Lose of DNC seat in Congress and now you have many Jews are wondering why should they still support the DNC.

I think more accurately it's the perversion of essentially a good religion to their own purposes. Anything to acquire and hold power over people. And it just doesn't come from politicians.

The old testament is jewish. Big surprise?
The old testament condones slavery, murdering of homos, female adulterers and executing unruly children.
