Yes and no. I was a teenager in the 80's. However I didn't get into bands such as Ratt, Poison, Cinderella, etc. I prefer bands like Testament, Overkill, Helloween, Megadeth, Jane's Addiction, Gwar, Rob/White Zombie, Anthrax, Exodus, Pantera, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Rush, Ted Nugent, Slayer, etc. For me, for example, think that Metallica WAS a great metal band..but when they released the Black Album I thought then and still do now, that they suck. Haven't seen a concert since Justice for All and haven't bought an album after Black. On the other hand the 1st time I seen Megadeth was in 1987..they rocked then..seen them a few years later when they and Testament opened for Judas Priest. Megadeth and Testament both rocked but when Judas Priest came out, it almost put me to sleep and I love Judas Priest as well. Priest seemed so "slow" and boring after those 2 bands that it actually made them "suck". I would never see them together in concert again unless Priest was opening. For some of the "newer" bands I like Disturbed, Godsmack, and Mudvayne to name a few. But for the most part I find myself listening to bands that I started listening to 20 yrs + ago, like celebrating seeing Megadeth for 20 yrs this Oct in concert. Some bands today have the talent that they did years ago but they are much fewer are farther between.

Um.. I agree with you on some points and disagree on others. The Metal bands of yesteryears WERE amazing. Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath.... the list goes on and on. But I wouldn't say that today's metal isn't great either. They're good but the only reason some don't think so is because they're being compared WITH the great bands. I'm a fan of today's metal AND yesterday's metal.

sad but true, metal bands as well as rock in general took a turn for the worse after the 80's. Alot of people, including some in the entertainment world, believe rock died at the end of the 80's also. I have to agree.

and who says music cant make you violent?

jeez its only tune-age. I cant say i was ever ito the hard core metal thing anyway but i loved loud electric guitars as much as anyone. and priest and maiden are in my collection but not the rest. i like a tight sound like ac/dc but music changes. you cant expect it to be what it always was, or for new bands to pick up where megadeth left off.

they are young kids and they have their own influences. You can either get curious and add some new blood to your collection or just rely on those old faves to see you through to your old age. I just started listening to "my chemical romance" and you can either laghat that or go to itunes and check it out.

rock is alive and well.

I don't listen to metal very often, but I would have to agree with you. They aren't that great anymore and there isn't that much great talent out there to begin with. I have noticed that Bullet for My Valentine isn't too bad, not as great as Pantera but much better than most others.

Well there are a lot more now and, to be honist, most of them are just copying older bands. Although there are good ones today the older one were pinoeers.

All metal bands sucked. They had hair and noise.

EDIT:dude your a pud. I can't stand any metal bands. Name one, just one that has made a lasting impression on music. While you search that pea sized brain you will come up empty, just like metal hair music.
Call me names I don't care, I won't report your worthless a$$.
But in the end, all metal bands suck as much as you.

EDIT:
Like I said you are still a pud. You want to conduct horrific experiments on me because I don't like metal? Now maybe that explains why I don't like metal. Too many morons like you that think Mega Death is cool. Mainstream, hardly. But you make asinine statements so what the hell else can I expect.
I listen to Wilco, Paul Westerberg, The Replacements, Uncle Tupelo, The Mescaderos. Grew up on the Stones, Hendrix, LZ , Neil Young, The Clash and Lou Reed. Try listening to Lou Reed's album Ecstasy, tell me it isn't rocking. The difference between these greats and that shyte you listen to is they know music and they can adapt and keep it interesting.
Sorry PUD Metal is so boring like your posts. And you can keep me away.
