He was a great hitter as well, but He fought with teammates, the opposition, used to sharpen his spikes, once beat up a man who had no hands, would sometimes yell out"I'm going to steal second!"

Chipmaker,I feel the same way-I don't watch a game wondering how a guy's personality is,unlike these buffoons who bash a player because of his personality.I want to see him hitting,pitching,etc...

The difference between Cobb and Bonds is that Cobb was a product of the era he grew up in. Parents taught their children hate. That's all he knew. Religion and hate (which always seem to go together) were passed down from generation to generation.

Fighting was a way 'a man proved he was a man', again, something more indicative of the times.

Our era is the era of self-gratification. We see people putting their cigarettes out the window because they want to smoke, but don't want their car to be dirty, they cut people off in traffic because 'they are in a hurry'.

If Cobb was raised in our era (and his parents were no better at raising him), he wouldn't have been a racist. Racism isn't an inate characteristic, it's learned.

So, the answer to your question is that we will never know.
We know Bonds is a self-important person who only thinks of himself and wants to be in the spot light so badly, that he will cheat to do it.
And you 'askers' give him momentum by constantly asking questions about him, whether negative or the occasional positive one.

In Cobbs' time, a lot were racist, you just only heard about the successful ones.

Ty Cobb might by no potential have been waiting to ruin out with the failings in his day through media exposure. He might have been suspended numerous cases. i'm undecided if he could be extra hated than Bonds. If Bonds performed back then, Barry actual might have taken alot of warmth through fact he replaced into black. Cobb is white, so consequently, the yankee public might tend to sympathize a sprint extra with him than they do with bonds. it is the actuality.

Ty Cobb was from a different society...he was from the South and was a blatant racist, he was surly, he played to intimidate the other team he did everything in his powers to win even if it bent the rules. He was a horrible human being but one of the smartest ball players ever and one of the smartest outside of Baseball, he made shrewd business decisions to secure his future after baseball.

As far as yelling out that he was going to steal, we had someone like that...RICKEY HENDERSON! Except he would say, "Rickey thinks that Rickey will take the next bag, Rickey is the greatest, you can not stop Rickey, Rickey is a force, Rickey is handsome...do not even try to stop Rickey, it is impossible!"

He would most likely be banned nowadays though.

This is silly. Bonds is frosty to the media -- which does the lion's share of painting the public's perception of him -- but Cobb was a genuine misanthrope, didn't like or trust practically anyone.

Cobb would be at the fore of any Bonds lynch mob, for reasons related and unrelated to baseball.

I don't know any ballplayers personally, so liking or disliking any player is irrelevant. I don't care if Bonds is or is not a Complete Jerk because it means nothing to me. Many people vest a great deal of emotion into any given player; all I care about is how they perform on the field, because that's the baseball part.

Cobb could never get away with his style of play today. Players make so much money and there is more respect for players on the other team and their right to a long career. I really believe Cobb would adjust to the style of play today and be just as good as he was when he played. The fans would love him in Detroit.

both would be hated. ty cobb was just a mean old sob, but he didn't need to do drugs to win, and he won a lot. i am trying to avoid using the B word regarding baseball in the future but the B in question is the rotten apple in the barrel. He will infect all of baseball as it is discussed week after week and month after month. He is likely to set this BOYCOTT of major leaque baseball. I sure signed onto the petition and support it for sure buddy. The hall of fame must be changed. Pete Rose out and Bonds goes in? Hell no!

Bond is and always will be the most hated man in sports. Sure everyone hated Ty Cobb but everyone respected him. Cobb, even though everyone hated him, still was inducted into the Hall of Fames first class. Bonds is a liar and a cheater and hopefully NEVER gets in.

Ty Cobb was a big-time jerk. He was about on the same level as Bobby Bonds. Barry has taken the jerk level to new heights and makes his Dad and Cobb look like rank amateurs. Then you add the cheating, and you get the complete package that is Barry Bonds. Nice ain't it?

This is one of those things that makes me mad when it comes to Bonds being criticized. Bonds plays the game it is supposed to be played especially before and since the steroids issue. He just does not like the media and has chosen the wrong way to deal with it.

And baseball players have been cheating for years and there are plenty of cheaters in the Hall so get over it.

Cobb was a racist for sure, but don't you think that people who stick up for Bonds and Vick aren't just as racist? Would that crowd of black supporters be outside Atlanta stadium supporting their 'white' quarterback? Gimme a break! All I have to say is:
"Run O.J. Run!"
