It would be nice to get them to see if there are any problems in our elevator @ our apartment, etc.

Every state has inspection requirements for elevators. The inspections are carried out by certified inspectors, not by landlords or property managers.

Most states require that the inspection certificate be plainly posted inside each elevator car. A few allow for the certificate to be kept at a central location on the premises as long as there is a notice posted in each elevator car that states where the inspection certificate is maintained.

It should say in your lease agreement who's responsibility it is.

In the UK, lifts have to be inspected periodically - who's responsibility that is depends on the situation. So dig out your rental agreement, or contact the lift installer and see if they have a record of when it was last checked and who was responsible.

EDIT: to clarify, it is actually a lift specialist who carries out the inspection, but who arranges the inspection and who pays the bill (I assume) is what you want to find out.
