in books we say, the energy required to move a charge from one place to another and we call it voltage too.

Its similar like u have a straight horizontal pipe having water If we make one side down the other, the water will flow, why?? because potential difference has occured. one is high, one is low. similarlarly in electricity we say, one is at high potential and other at low so that current can flow.
