Wouldn't it make more sense for this to happen?

Of course it should be done democratically, and it may take many years before the N. Ireland public vote for independence/join the ROI?

But wouldn't it all in all be in N. Ireland's best interests in the long term?

I believe they separated because of religious reasons in the first place. If they can work out there catholic and protestant differences than the formation of one Ireland may occur.

I think that in time there will be one nation for the island of Ireland. Perhaps to compromise, that nation might not be called the Republic of Ireland but something along the lines of the "United Irish Community".

Re another post -
"Northern Ireland is part of Ireland. Thus, it must belong to the Republic of Ireland so that there will be no confusion"
By that logic,
"Mexico is a part of America. Thus, it must belong to the United States of America so that there will be no confusion"
(Not to mention Canada, Venezuela, Chile etc etc).
