If they can afford them, which they obviously can... why not??....

Who are we to say what they can and cannot do. The dad is financially providing for all those kids, and the mother wants more if she can have them. Now... if they were all living off the government dole... that would be a different question altogether...

I don't think so. It isn't right form the moment that those 17 children will not receive the same kind of attention form their parents and that's only if they can be afforded, otherwise they'll lack what they need to survive. I think you should have as many children as you can support and love equally. In my opinion 4 should be the limit by couple. The world does need extra people to feed on its resources and we cannot children if we cannot support them appropriately and give the them love and energy they need from us. Besides, what tends to happen is that the oldest children have to sort of parents for the younger ones and that's not fair, they all have to adjust and make themselves aside because of the situation.
Now, if we look at it from a medical perspective, we can conclude that it is highly risky for a women to give birth so many times. Imagine if she died and her husband were alive to raise the children, it would be even more complicated since he is only one, of course. From every point of view I don't think it's right nor good for any of them, parents and children.
Now, we must acknowledge that many people can't decide what to do with their lives and bodies, they just lack the information or the resources to plan their family and whenever children come, well, they face it. Many times it escapes them. I'm not saying it's not their responsibility but we must understand that judging without knowing the entire situation isn't right and that lots of people go through the same all over the world, not only in third world countries, as we can draw from this.

Absolutely - these kids are all home schooled, the family built their own home (with help from friends and family) and if you've ever heard an interview with either of the parents you'd know that they're happy as pigs in poop!

Personally, I can't imagine being pregnant that many times, but that's just me...

If you can emotionally and physically and financially afford to raise 17 kids or 30 kids, then by all means! Have as big a family as you want to!

I think people should have as many as they want as long as they can adequately provide for them. Not just financially but emotionally as well. I think the main thing parents need to teach their children are respect for people, places, and things, discipline, and modesty. I know a lady who has 18 kids and they have all gone to college and are very productive and active in the community. The child of hers with the most kids is three.

I don't like to make judgements on people and their choices but NO! The more kids you have the worse the quality of life is for the ones that you already have. Kids end up raising their brothers and sisters and all around it's just not fair to do this sort of thing in this day and age.

I had a friend with 17 siblings, and when he died at 57; I called his dad to offer my condolences. Asking how the family was , now all adults now were fine and he had given him FOUR grandchildren. I guess those kids didn't think big families where that great..... I don't think anyone should that many children for psychological reasons and emotional needs.

You should have to take an IQ test before having 1 kid!

To quote Greenday "I've been around the world and found that only stupid people are breeding".

Usually this number of kids is tied to some stupid mythology the people follow.

If they have the means to take care and support all of them then they have the right to have as many kids as they want. At the same time they need to make sure they can give each one of their child and equal part, none need to be left out.

In this day and age, NO! I don't think it's a responsible thing to do. There are so many kids out there that don't have parents and can't be fed. If you have 17 kids, how do you give them "quality time"?

A bit extreme in todays world. With 17, how do they find the time to procreate? I have two and it seems every time I'm close, they knock on the door.
