I am starting to buy shrubs and bushes and I know I had this as a hedge when I moved into a house about 20 years ago. The only thing I remembers is to keep it trimmed when needed and it got mildew on its leaves, but it was on the north side, the worse here in So Or zone 7. Does it grow fast ? Can I take cuttings ? What does it like we have very hot summers over 100 1/3 of the summer and no rain and wet winters. I want it to grow tall by my city fenced in back yard for privacy but would like to know about it from those who actually have used it. thanks

Perfect choice for a hedge that isn't fussy! I'm in CA - no rain in summer and over 100 quite a few days - the thing hardly needs watering and won't die after a freak frost which we have on occassion. We removed it 5 years ago (was in a bad location - not planted by us), but seedlings keep popping up to this day. The berries that it bears after flowering have seeds, so you wont need to take cuttings - they'll plant themselves - believe me! Just relocate the seedlings to where you want them. good luck!
