Most zoos require some type of work expereince, be it at a zoo, rehab center, pet store (hate that one) and so on and so forth. If you have a zoo close by I would look into getting a job there. Just about every zoo offers what they consider seasonal help. Those seasonal jobs can include anything from cleaning up trash, selling tickets to working with the animals. What you have to remember though is take any job they offer you, even if it is not working with animals. Zoos are the types of places that love to hire from within and who love people who are willing to work their way up.

As far as schooling goes it depends on the zoo and the exact job. Most will require some type of four year degree along the lines of bio, zoology, natural resources, etc... however some positions will sub a degree for years expereince. Another reason to get your foot in the door now. :)

If you are really interested try talking to someone who works at your local zoo. Like I said though, try looking into seasonal work, that will be the best place to start.

Good luck.
