yes definately. I have the Inspiron 1500 and it's great. I actually know someone who has the 6400 and its better than my 1500, its much faster and it has more stock memory. I would always recommend a Dell. Dell's in my opinion are the best computers out right now especially for laptops.

What do you mostly use your computer for? In order to decide whether a computer is a good choice, you have to consider your typical usage.
Any machine can handle e-mail, word processing, looking at photos and web browsing but if you plan on gaming, video editing, etc then some machines aren't good for that... How important is battery life, or do you almost always keep it plugged in? How important are weight & portability or would you rather have a bigger screen, like 17 inches?
If 15.4" is large enough for you, then the 6400 is a great unit, according to the reviews it's identical to the E1505, just sold therough Dell's business site:

I recently bought this laptop but before i did I asked a guy at work and he said that it looks like a really good deal – good laptop, good brand.
The only thing that he did say was that it comes with Windows Vista – the latest version of Windows. This takes a large amount of memory to run, so he recommended that you use the customize option when ordering and select Windows XP – this means it will run a lot faster. If you do want to keep vista, you need to upgrade the memory to 2GB (apparently if you try and run it with just 1GB memory, it works but is really slow) which means that the price shoots up by another £100+.

My 6400 ran at 3 GHz with none undertaking using the inventory cooler and voltage. I left it at 2.66GHz. What motherboard and cooler do you have? Are you one hundred% effective the cooler is genuinely put in? in case you have an incredibly low-end motherboard, you in all risk won't have the potential to overclock. On my P4M800PRO-M, any overclocking in any know grew to become into hopeless (2.33GHz would not even load the OS!). On my MSI Neo3, the staggering comparable CPU and heatsink, fan, memory, and CPU overclocked without undertaking.

No.
What you buy with a DELL machine is the Dell brandname- if you get a decent laptop from any other suppplier (personally I reccomend Novatech), then you'll get a better machine for the same or less price.

My daughter has the brother to the 6400, which is the 1505. It's a good notebook, hopefully the one you are looking at has the SXGA+ LCD.
