I think there is a dead mouse or something in the dryer or the dryer vent because there is a foul odor emanating from my dryer. I removed the hose and visually inspected it, and also checked under the washer & dryer, but couldn't see anything.
The stink is getting stronger and I need to do something quick.

I am not sure if I should call a general contractor, a handyman or a dryer serviceman - because I don't know where the problem is. First time home owner, with no experience handling an issue like this.

Thanks very much for any help!

Check the electric outlets near the dryer or maybe the dryer plug itself? I have experienced and have heard many stories of mice crawling over an outlet and getting electrocuted. I luckily had paneling which I removed and found the poor bugger.
I know it's an awful smell which makes it hard to pin point exactly where it is. Don't poke around the outlets unless you can turn off power to them, but sometimes just removing the cover plates will let you see in there.

Boy do you have a problem. You must try and locate exactly where the smell is or this is going to cost you a fortune ine repair men. I had the same problem around my dishwasher and thought it was a smell from the dishwasher and later found that I had defrosted something and accidently put the dish in the cupboard without washing it, this took me 3 days to find as I don't have a good sense of smell and boy it was like a dead animal smell. So you see it maybe something so simple and not an animal. Find someone with a good nose and try and locate the problem before calling servicemen. Good Luck.

We went on vacation a couple of months ago and the cabin that we were renting had the same issue. Except we were not sure where the smell was coming from. We checked everywhere and had the fix it guy come over. He basically said get used to it...it happens all the time. There is a point where it smells really bad and then it goes away. Personally I'm not sure if I would pay hundreds of dollars to get rid of it...on the other hand it was pretty bad for the few days that we smelled it!

GOOD LUCK!!!

Mice get into the blower and have babies and when you turn it on, they get squished. http://appliancequickfix.com/ may be
able to identify which type you have and how to clean out the
blower.
