What does it mean to, for example "sway to the left or right?" What does it mean to be "left" or "right?"

Liberals are considered to have political philosophies that are left of center. Conservatives have political philosophies that are right of center. People in the center are sitting on fences.

This could be a very long and involved answer. I hate long answers, BTW. Swaying, leaning or what ever to the left means you are agreeing with Socialism, or to the extreme communism, in other words you need big government to provide a safety net, Liberalism. To the right means you are not in agreement with big government, prefer individual freedom. You belive in Capitolism. If you sway both ways, you definitely do not understand and/or are afraid to make a committment one way or the other.
There it is Short and Sweet.

People that only sway to the left or right are closed to independent thinking. They follow blindly the "party line".

Moody Red (above) forgot to mention that conservatives believe in individual Freedom EXCEPT in respects to homosexuals.
