they give your body vitamins to help the development of your baby, that otherwise you might be missing in just day to day foods.
its best to take the pills, (personally i find them horse pills and dont take them too often, though i really know i should since it is for the good of the baby. )

Yes, they help the baby and you. They give you the nutrients that you may be missing from your diet so that the baby is getting all the ones he/she needs to grow. If you don't take prenatal vitamins, your baby will begin to take nutrients from your body. I read of a woman once who didn't take prenatal vitamins and her teeth began breaking. The baby needed calcium and that is where he/she took it from! I know it's a terrible thing, but it made me really be sure I took that vitamin every single day!

You take prenatals because your baby takes like all nutrients from you so your baby is getting all those vitamins that are in the prenatals...the vitamins will make them healthier and grow accurately inside...you are also supposed to take them when you breastfeed so the baby can keep getting those nutrients...its a good idea to take them...and if they are making you sick...ask your doctor if there is another one you can try...or make sure you eat with them so your stomach doesnt get upset

I see everyone telling you how they help-they do. Though, with my first child, I couldn't even take the Flintstones vitamins without becoming sick. I never had morning or evening sickness until I took my vitamin-then the vitamin would come back up. I stopped taking them when I was about 10 weeks pregnant. My son was born on time, healthy and weighing 7lbs 9oz. He has no problems and has skipped a grade level in school.
I took vitamins with my second. He was born on time, weighing 7lbs 1oz and with a inguinal hernia and suspended testicle. He's a fussy child. I don't blame vitamins-don't get me wrong. I'm just giving examples.
This pregnancy, I haven't been able to take the vitamins either and I'm 3 months.
In every case, I ate a well balanced diet and drank plenty of water. I kept accurate count in a food diary to make sure I had adequate amounts of each food group. I gained 30lbs with the first, 28lbs with the second and I haven't gained any weight just yet with this one.

Those prenatal vitamins is for your body, a pregnant women looses a lot of calcium and other nutrients in her body bcoz the baby is getting some of those nutrients. This is why u need supplements in exchange for the ones u've lost.

They help you and your body first, and then the baby.
Your body will defer to the needs of the baby, if the baby needs a mineral or vitamin your body will give it to the baby before it uses it for itself. Even to the point of leeching calcium from your teeth if it cant be found in the digestive system.
If your body does not have its own reserves, it cannot give the baby the nutrients needed, and the baby will not be able to develop as it should.
And if you dont have it for yourself you body cannot recoup and fix and rebuild after each day, leaving you depleated and at risk for things like anemia, low bone desity, weakness, and stress.
You take pernatals to make sure your body has everything it needs for itself and the body.
