No it isn't a race issue. When Aaron was on the verge of setting a new home run record, he was receiving death threats because he is black and it was around the '60s when segregation was still a major issue in this country and blacks had only started playing in the majors not long before this. With Bonds, he is just a major asshole that cheated to make baseball history. The only people that are rooting for him are Giants fans. Aaron himself said that he wouldn't show to help Bonds celebrate setting the new home run record. It may be an issue of race for a few but that isn't the major case with Bonds being hated by many.

Blacks want to believe it is the 1960's still. That was 50 years ago, get over it already. You didn't see big mac make the hof this year, it isn't a race issue with him. People didn't vote for him because of roids, and the same goes for Bonds. People don't like cheaters.

Race issue or not to white people, it obviously is to some black people. I just made a response to the fellow in which I hope I made my point that race wasn't the main issue for my decision to dislike Bonds.
That being said (and I think people ought to answer the man and others who make these statements), white people in this forum shoot off 'racist!' every time a black baseball player says ANYTHING about race. Sheffield made a number of statements backed by figures and the whites went wild calling him a racist. It is in calling a man a racist who is backed in his statements by face that whites show their resentment toward blacks. You have a case with Bonds but since so many white people go off on blacks whenever race is mentioned it is easy to understand why this fellow thinks it is a matter of race.
Answer the man in a rational way and maybe he'll believe you.

I honestly CAN NOT take these people who play the race card and use it as a crutch to stand on.
A cheater is a cheater no matter what color they are.
When Aaron was on the verge of breaking the record race was definitely an issue.. look at the times.
Bonds however is a cry baby who cannot get along with anyone. Not to mention a cheater.
I cant wait for A-rod to break his record so that we can all forget him.

I don't believe it is a race issue, Bonds is the top performer of all those believed, by many fans, to have used drugs. It is just a natural reaction to go after the top guy. If McGuire were still playing he would be getting plenty of bad press and negative fan response as well. I believe there are many issues, involving race, that all of us have to deal with in our society but I don't believe the Bonds issue is one of them.

When Mark Mguire was questioned about his use of aphemedies when he was close to breaking Roger Maris homerun record u barely heard a peep from the media & fans. They acted as if it was ok. So while i won't outright say that it's a race issue i do see a doublestandard.

The race card should not be played here. There have been alot of white people as well that have been in the hot seat for cheating (ie enhancement drugs). If bonds was singled out it is bc of his wrongdoing, not bc he is black.

I want to know why YA allows him to be here. People who scream about racism are the biggest of racists. I'm a white guy who grew up in the fifties. One of my biggest heroes was Elston Howard. I cried when Campy was crippled in the car crash, and when Clemente died in a plane crash. I was a big Jim Rice fan, even though my team is the Yankees. I disliked Ted Williams. Loved Rod Carew. I have NEVER made choices about people based upon race. And I'm sick and tired of generalizations that imply that I...or anyone else...did.

Just because certain black people do not like bonds doesnt mean some whites may hate him because he is black. the blacks that dislike bonds do not cancell out the racists that hate bonds.

I give a thumbs down to every post that stoops to such a disgusting level. People who don't have a decent rebuttal often will pick up some totally unrelated yet loaded topic to cover up the fact that you've outwitted them. They don't know what else to say... so they try to throw mud.
