I would like to gain more wall space by framing and drywalling in the chimmey bricks that run through the room. Can I use some 2x3's or 2x4's to do this? Also, I don't want put any nails so can I use consrtuction grade glue to glue them to the bricks?

This is all brick, no fireplace. It's 7'9" high from floor to ceiling, 4' wide, and 4" deep. So, I should make a separate frame then nail to floor, walls and ceiling?
thanks!

Tap Cons in the mortor may be best, that way in the future if you wanted to uncover the brick it wouldn't be harmed, all that you would need to do is fill in the holes and the fire place would be good as new!

While I understand, in part, some desire to add wall space; I'm also saddened about the covering up of brick.

Glue will not be satisfactory, and in fact might eventually lead to a degraded condition you'll regret.

Without any detail about the area you wish to cover; you might explore studding out the perimeter/sides of the fireplace to come out more than flush. Again,,, not knowing the span across it may be not what you're thinking.

I might explore using construction adhesive on 2 x 2 centered at 16 inches/ screwed into through the drywall attached to the perimeter studs. That would add support to the drywall across the span, and perhaps hold well enough to allow some "hanging space" while not using TAP CONS in the brick face. Certainly it would help to know that span across, as well as the depth opf the brick work as it adjoins the two sides of the adjacent wall.

I'd also not use "nails" at all, ever, when doing stone work or drywall install.
