Well this is a good q. I think that bird has a better chance cause he was a better shouter. And larry made 12 all-star games in 13 seasons and dirk only make 6 in 9 seasons. Also dirk has no ring with him and bird does.

Dirk, more talented athletically. Bird and Magic made up for their lack of athlecism through basketball smarts, passing, leadership, and toughness. Things that does not always come with athletic gifts, things that as of now, Dirk lacks. Those were the things that made them(Bird and Magic) excel, especially in a team game like basketball. But since you're question is who would win a 1 on 1 game. Definitley Dirk, much taller, more faster and probably just as strong as Larry Bird. But definitley more athletic.

In his prime, Larry Legend would definitely win in a 1 on 1 vs Dirk Nowitzki.

Stats

Larry Legend : 24.3 PPG, 10.0 RPG, .84 BPG, .496 FG%
Dirk Nowitzki : 22.3 PPG, 8.6 RPG, 1.0 BPG, .470 FG%

Though it wouldn't matter in a 1 on 1, Bird was a better playmaker (6.3 assists per game) than Dirk (2.6 APG); Bird also made 12 All-Star games in 13 seasons, where Dirk has only made 6 in his 9 seasons. To cap it off, you can count rings, which Bird leads the race 3-0.

Hands down.. larry bird!

Larry's got three championship rings, three MVP trophies, nine All-NBA first-team citations

He could school nowitzki with the inside or outside game. Plus, he's way tougher, stronger and clutch than nowitzki.

Nowitzki's got a long way to go before he can match up to larry.

if your talking about Bird in his prime it would be Bird but now if they were to go 1 on 1 I gotta give it to Nowitzki.

Bird would still beat him now and Nowitzki, after choking would somehow find a way to blame Erik Dampier.

If it was right now dirk would win, but in larry's prime he would win.

Bird went one-on-one with Dr. J... Compared to that challenge, no-clutch Nowitzki is no problem!!!
