Ask your self why? You have to have the right intent to take on such an endevour.

Next... find a reputable guide or teacher. Check the local new age shop.

Then follow your gut.

Now, when i am learning or bonding with a new deck I take one card a day and dedicate my day to it. I read about it. I try to see how it aplies to my life. I take time to look closely at it... familiarize myself with it.

A gifted deck is always better than a bought deck.

Never accept money for a reading...

There are millions of Tarot decks out there and lots of books on tarot reading and tarot lore. Find a deck and a book that most appeals to you. Familiarize yourself with the traditional meanings of the cards. (It's might be good tostart with or have your second deck be the Rider-Waite Tarot. The imagery helps in remembering the meaning of the cards).

Then, "meditate" on the cards. That is, place them down one by one and look at each for a while and make a note of your thoughts and feelings about the card--not to tell a fortune, but to create a personal identification and understanding about the card.

At first, in doing card reading spreads, you may find yourself referring back to the traditional meaning of the cards or your "card meditation" exercises. This is a good way to start.

Then, you need to cultivate a kind of open mind-feeling state--like a meditative state when you read the cards. Feel like an energy field instead of a noisy mind. When you lay the cards out then, you may begin to "see" or feel impressions and ideas when looking at the cards that might tell a story. Keep a pad next to you and jot down your impressions. You don't need to have a person to read for infront of you. You can read for yourself or for someone you are thinking of. If you can get into the right kind of mind state, you will be surprised at what you can pick up about people who you are merely thinking of.

With practice in this way, you may become a good card reader.

There are many places, online and in 'real life' where you can purchase a deck of tarot cards AND a book explaining the meaning of each. Some places offer these as a set. Purchase the deck you are drawn to. Once you learn the layout(s) and meanings of each card, listen to that 'inner' voice as well... tarot isn't difficult and can be fun and rewarding. good luck!
