One can only hope. Busting up the God and Greed coalition so that the party can return to its Conservative roots would be the best thing that's happened to this country in a long time.
I don't know if Secularism, with appropriate lip service to religion will be possible for Republicans, but it will cause a lot of Fundies to bail.
A Clinton-Guiliani matchup, where the choice is between a woman who acts like a man and a man who dresses like a woman might be enough to keep a lot of Fundies home on Election Day.
And the rise of the Religious Left, made up of Churches where the New Covenant is actually taken seriously is undermining the GOP's claim to being God's party.

If a Republican stands for the right of free religious association, is he a member of a sect?
Giuliani is a Catholic. Did you ever stop to think that, if elected, he would just change flags to a new 'sect', as you call it.
Religion in politics is a bad thing yes but, to make secularism a prerequisite for leadership only wanes the talent pool even more. Secularism itself becomes a religious sect. With that in mind, the chance of us ever getting a politician with a brain gets less and less likely.

As a greater average republican, i'm incredibly hoping that Giuliani is able to get the nomination. i think of the subject with American politics at present is that the two events have become so severe. What we decide for is a statesman or stateswoman; no longer a great-republican or a great-democrat. besides the fact that, with the known device, applicants are compelled to extremes so as to win the party's nomination. i think of Giuliani would be a competent president for our united states of america; regrettably, he's going to have an extremely annoying time getting the nomination. on the different hand, he's be a staggering statesman and somebody i'd be proud to have symbolize our united states of america in remote places affairs.

I hope so. Religion and government have no place near each other, history has proven this. What I find very respectable of him though, is that he emphasizes how the U.S is fighting Muslim extremists, not your everyday Muslim or Arab. He brings a much needed dose of realism and understanding to the table, hopefully he'll do away with all the ignorance and stupidity American propaganda has created.

I have never believed the Republicans when they claim to be the religious party. Actions speak louder than words.

Since I'm neither Christian nor are many of my Conservative, Republican friends, I'd have to say "no." (Of course, you knew that...and are just trying to Pi$$ people off).
But let's say, your accusation is true. If Republicans are looking for a Messiah, what are Libs looking for? Since you all believe that the government should take care of your every want and desire...I guess it must be a Daddy.

Giuliani is just another Bush. Bush's religious lip service is just posturing and anyone with a brain can see that.

Please....... There are many of us who are conservative and don't consider ourselves as being part of the 'religious sect'. I also don't see our president as being a Messiah. Just because we don't sit around like the rest of you Bush bashers, who spend more time bashing than anything else, don't sell us short. :)

I hope so. The US needs two credible parties for the government to function correctly. Just look how badly its broken with only a viable Democratic party today.
