If you are OTT cheerful, do you ever get told to calm down?
If you a moaner, do you get fed up with people telling you to cheer up?

Someone once said to me that people who always seem too happy (in public) are often hiding depression, like a lot of comedians, or other illness. (He was referring to a colleague of ours). Do you agree?

I didn't realise that being a comedian was an illness.
I do my share of moaning, but I always did that.
I have a large mirror in my hallway, and once I'm dressed, I always smile at myself in the mirror. (I don't look in any mirror before I'm dressed).

No, I can't agree entirely, I think in some cases people do hide behind a false outward approach, but I would like to think that is the exeption rather than the rule. I am pretty sure, like my husband and I, we just think we are lucky to be alive, and quite frankly, I would not want to be young again in this day and age - we were very fortunate to be around in the 40's 50's and 60's in particular, life was simple, pleasurable, and we were far less materialistic. It's very hard for youngters to compete in the current climate, and so many probably have far more to worry about than the over 60's.

I have had some terrible blows in my life and was very unhappy, not really depressed, just unhappy. I dealt with these things by teaching myself to laugh again, and now I am just grateful I didn't spiral down a long dark tunnel as I could so easily have done. I'm not saying everything is wonderful but you have to stay positive! If you don't you have no chance of a happy life! I don't moan often! lol x

No i dont agree with that,I am not a senior citizen but i have been told to cheer up sometimes when i am perfectly happy.I cant help thinking though if you walked around with a big grin on your face, people would think you were mad.

Umm? I am not so sure about that. I have my up days - I have my down days. Most people see me up so I'd like to think that this is me most of the time.

I hate depression and will not entertain it. I like feeling good and positive even when the chips are down, so I talk myself out of it or read/hear about someone far worst off than me.
