Using an automobile coil on a lawntractor?

Ive herd of someone using a standard automobile coil in place of a magneto on a average lawntractor, sounds feasable, only one thing.Wheres the signal to fire come from? Id try it if i knew, i have one tractor that need a $135 coil pack.

Ive worked on lawntractors for 12 plus years- Im just asking 'where does the signal to spark 'come from when bypassing the magneto

No. The coil is only one part of several in a magneto system.
