It has to do with the Earth's position around the sun. The Earth revolves around the sun and when the Northern Hemisphere is facing the sun it's summer and when it's not it's winter but when it's summer in the Northern Hemisphere it's winter in the Southern Hemisphere. Because when the Northern Hemisphere isn't facing the sun the Southern Hemisphere is facing it. But when both hemispheres are facing the sun at the same angle it's either Autumn or spring. Get it?

Revolution of the earth around the sun and the tilt of the earth's axis with respect to the plane of the earth's orbit around the sun are the two main reasons for the change of seasons on the earth.

SUMMER in the Northern Hemisphere
Notice how the top part of the earth is leaning toward the sun, which means it receives more of the sun’s energy.
WINTER in the Northern Hemisphere
Here, the top part of the earth is leaning away form the sun, meaning it receives less energy from the sunlight.
