I don't think racism has anything to do with it! It is about his poor attitude! You should understand that he is going to be put in the same categories as some of the greatest players baseball has ever seen, but that doesn't mean he deserves it! Those players that he is being compared to, played only half as many games and did it because they loved the game. He does it for the money! The problem with baseball today is that very few play for the love of the game but instead the dough in their pockets. So I personally don't care if he is black or white or any other color, I don't feel Bonds has earned the right to be considered a great athlete cuz their is more to being a great athlete than the numbers on the board!

Hmmmm - let me think. I despise everything that Bonds stands for, and while I will acknowledge his 756th home run when he hits it as the record breaker, I am not happy about. So does that mean I'm a racist? Let's see, my list of all time favorite athletes includes Walter Payton, Gale Sayers, Willie Mays, Kareem Abdul - Jabbar. Ernie Banks and Muhammad Ali. But since I happen to not like an athlete who is rude to the press, more interested in his own personal glory then the success of his team, has blamed everyone he possibly can for his own troubles, and basically comes off as one of the biggest jerks to have ever worn a baseball uniform, I must be a racist. These are characteristics I would despise from anyone in any profession, regardless of their race.
Are there people out there who hate Bonds because he is black? Of course there are, you will never eliminate racism completely. But to put Bonds up on a pedestal as a victim of racism is an insult to those who have truly experienced it.

Some may be using it, but there is a legitimate reason to be opposed, and the same statement can be used for Biggio's 3000th hit.

The chase is wrong, not because his career may have been artificially lengthened, but because his team is letting the chase take priority over the team goals.

The same happened in Houston. By letting Biggio (.247-.285-.386) get the playing time to get the 3000th hit, they prevented the development of Chris Burke... they let the player be more important than the team.

The same can be said for Bonds (.185-.421-.426 in last month). They paid him about $ 16-17 M to follow this chase, instead of helping their own team... they could be rebuilding.

So, in brief, some may be, but there are other reasons.

starting to be up my step father and that i agreed on purely one element: Hank Aaron became the main suitable. He had approximately 2 hundred HR as quickly as I grew to become a fan. I watched him in his profession play the sport extra useful than even Willie Mays (sorry, yet Hank wasn't as flashy, yet a splash extra useful, i assumed). Then the residing house run checklist. while he have been given close, the dying threats and the tension made me like him two times as plenty. He made a remark someplace alongside the line and my step dad seen him merely yet another black guy with subjects and dropped. I caught it out. And he became super. Then Bonds comes together with his repulsive character and his steroids and his 'i do no longer sign autographs for white people' and you opt to tell me i'm showing my racism for hating yet another spoiled wealthy guy for performing like a jerk. McEnroe, Barkley, Rose, Kent -- I dislike all of them. Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods are the Babe Ruths of their activities and that they are no longer self-based idiots and that i'm a brilliant fan of the two. What am I hiding there?

actually, no. thats why mlb went so soft on him and didn't constantly keep on testing him for steroids (even tho it was obvious that he was on juice) bc they didnt want to make it look like racism

and actually, racism has NOTHING WHAT SO EVER TO DO WITH BONDS. he took steroids and was on human growth. SORRY BUDDY, but its obvious, so u can stop making pathetic little excuses like "OH PPL R JUST RACIST" umm nonononooo, the real issue is that bonds is a filthy cheater. deal with it hun. cause i hate giambi with all my guts (ok lil harsh....) but atleast he admitted to being a dirty cheater. bonds could never bring himself to admit it.
stop living in a fantasy world, racism is a horrible thing, but IS NOT the issue here.

The people who keep bringing up the race card to me are the ones who are racists...I would rather Aaron (who is black) keep the record because he did it the right way...without steroids...and he had to deal with true racism not this "oh my god it's not about steroids your a racist" created racism. Speaking of racism though...Bonds is one of the biggest racists in America...just like a lot of people who keep bringing up race into a discussion that has nothing to do with it...so stop. I am so tired of ignorant people like you...it has nothing to do with race and everything to do with a baseball player who cheated and is about to break one of the biggest records in the game.

Sadly, I think so. Racist sentiment, though nowhere near as blatant than in the past, is nothing new to baseball as everyone should know. Jackie Robinson had hell to pay just to play in the big leagues, but as more and more minorities came up the racist roars toned down to seething murmurs. Barely heard, but still there. This Bonds situation is just a convenient vehicle to reopen past racist bitterness under the guise of steroid abuse. However, there is a glaring difference between Bonds' and Aaron's ascent to the HR carrer record. Whereas Aaron was seen as a humble, hard working man who didn't too much get in people's way, Bonds has been a sideshow for most of his career. Even before the steroid controversy, Bonds was never well liked and never gave a damn about not being well liked. He's always had a chip on his shoulder and an air of being bigger than baseball, so in esscense, he made himself very easy to hate from jump. I myself don't hate him, but I can understand why others do, be it race, steroids, his attitude, what have you.

Sorry my answer took a bit of a turn off course there, but I couldn't help it.

The VAST majority of people aren't making it about race. People don't like him because he cheated. Wake up! No one wanted OJ Simpson in jail because he was black. They wanted him in jail because he killed 2 people! Why do black people have to make everything about race? If a white person is made at a black person, that white person is automatically racist. If it is the other way around it is perfectly fine. Black people sold other blacks to the white people. That has nothing to do with me so get off of it. You aren't African Americans, you are just Americans. As soon as you guys realize that the sooner you will see racism end. Some of the most racist people I've ever met are black!

2007-08-06 02:15:58 · answer #9 · answered by Anonymous · 1 0

Let me guess, you are black? NO IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH RACE! Damn you people it has to do with taking illegal drugs and breaking the most revered record in all of baseball. If it were Mickey Friggen Mantle people would be mad. McGwire, ARod, Pujols, Griffey, IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT RACE HE IS. When will you people stop playing the race card and realize it's not all about you? The KKK is dead and so should about 300 of Barry Bonds' home runs.

It has nothing to do with racism. I personally would be disgusted if it were Giambi, Conseco or McGwire pursuing 756 right now.

The fact that Bonds is also a jerk doesn't help either.

I think the fact that you brought this up shows that you are a racist. Think you need to check your own heart before you accuse the rest of us of something so nasty.
