Why do they rock so much??Perhaps because they ooze with talent and their music suits several different styles. They were one of the pioneering bands of thrash metal in the 80's but I feel their music, their composition, their lyrics were far better than any other thrash metal band of that time. The original 4,Hetfield,Ullrich,Hammet n Burton were absolutely incredible.Just listen to some of their early tunes like Fade to Black,For Whom The Bell Tolls,Four Horsemen,Battery,Master of Puppets to see what I am talking about.Even after Burton's tragic demise, they followed it up with a superb album And Justice for all which represents the pinnacle of Metallica's thrash metal pioneering age. They changed with the Black Album but I still feel it was a very good album and helped them expand their fanbase.Nobody can't deny that Sad But True,Nothing Else Matters,Unforgiven are amazing.True theor style changed but still they managed too be very successful. With Load n Reload came a radical change with the songs becoming more bluesy n sounding more like hard rock than heavy metal.Still I liked songs like Mama Said,Hero of the day,Outlaw torn,Turn The Page very much.St.Anger was a big disappointment to me,but I would still laud metallica in their efforts to try out a new style of musci. So though Metallica's music encompasses several genres, they've recorded good songs in all of them, which have become true classics, which is the biggest testament to their talent.

I agree with bane. I grew on old Metallica. Like Hit the Lights, Ride the Lightning, For whom the bell tolls, Master of Puppets, Sanitarium, and Battery. They really got to mainstream and commercialized after Master of Puppets. To be honest, they have had so much success I wonder if they sold their souls.

They have been around for so long and still sell albums by the masses. Also a lot of the present bands, like Korn, refer to Metallica as their inspirations.

i dont know to be honest with you. i liked metalica when they were a thrash band and i stop listening to them after the black album. i think they have gotten to mainstream and about money. they have enormous talent and i think they sould go back to thier roots as a thrash band.
